<br />!1!Q.~!l~IQ!i <br /> <br />WHEREAS San Mateo County Harbor District gubmitted for the approval of the <br />electorate of the County a proposition to bond the district in the sum of $460,000 <br />for the development of a port project at Redwood City and said proposition was not <br />given sufficient approval at an election held on the 2gth day of August, 1934, due <br />to lack of appreciation of the county-wide merit of the undertaking, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS the Board of Harbor Commissioners has no plan whatever for said <br />port district to undertake the development of the port at Redwood City, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS Redwood Oi ty as a. municipali ty desires and intends to undertake <br />immediately the development of such port project while there is an opportunity to <br />obtain the assistance of the United States Government, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS the harbor at Redwood Oity has been an existing governmental pro- <br />ject since l8S2, and has received additional endorsement and appropriations under <br />Rivers and Harbors Acts of l8g4, 1986, lSgg, 1890, 1902, 1910, 1916, 1930 and 19;+, <br /> <br />NOW, TEEREFORE, :BE IT RESOLVED tha.t the Oi ty Council of the Oi ty of Redwood <br />City hereby assumes sponsorship for the development of said port and undertakes to <br />furnish free of cost to the United States all necessary rights of w~ and suitable <br />areas for the disposal of dredged material during initial construction thereof and <br />for future maintenance as and when needed, and agrees, gubject to approval of a <br />bond issue by the electors of the City of Redwood City, to furnish one-half of the <br />cost of dredging estimated as $94,000, and assures the Secretary of War that the <br />City of Redwood City will, out of the proceeds of such bond issue, construct <br />suitable modern port facilities for deep-draft ocean vessels with a wharf frontage <br />of ~eh length as ~ be required by the Secretary of War; and <br /> <br />FURTHER :BE IT RESOLVED that Charles G. Lambert, Mayor, and Charles L. <br />Dimmitt, Acting Oity Manager of the City of Red.wood Oity, be and they are hereb3" <br />authorized on behalf of the City of Redwood City to apply to the Chief of <br />Engineers of the United States Ar~ for its consent to the City of Redwood City <br />undertaking the sponsorship for the development of said harbor and port facilities <br />in the place of said San Mateo County Harbor District, and that said Mayor and <br />Acting City Manager be authorized to transmit to said Chief of Engineers of the <br />United States Ar~, through the district office thereof at San Francisco, an <br />application therefor and to take such other proceedings as may be appropriate <br />to achieve the purpose of this resolution. <br /> <br />The foregoing resolution was passed and adopted by the Council of the City <br />of Redwood C1 ty at its regular meeting held on the 2d day of December, 1935, by <br />the follOwing vote: <br /> <br />~es and in favor of the passage of the foregoing resolution: Councilmen, <br />L.
