<br />7C <br />Page 8 <br /> <br />ATTACHMENT 3 <br /> <br />SEWER RATE EXCERPT OF PROP 218 NOTICE <br /> <br />Proposed new sewer rates <br />The City of Redwood City staff has recommended that the basic sanitary sewer service charge be <br />Increased. The CIty's sewer utility is self-supporting, funded primarily by sewer service charges. <br />The sewer rate Increase Is primarily due to Increased costs for the City's share of operations, <br />maintenance, and capital improvements at the South Bayside System Authority (SBSA) regional <br />wastewater treatment plant. which processes and disposes of the City sewage. Additionally, the <br />City's sewer rate supports the operations and maintenance costs, including labor. replacement and <br />improvements (capital projects) for the City's sewer collection system and the cost of support <br />provided by other City departments. <br /> <br />The proposed sewer rate increases are as follows: <br /> <br />Residential Sewer Customers <br />Increase minimum monthly residential Basic Service Charge from $41.01 to $ 44.70, an <br />increase of $3.69 effective Juiy 1. 2009. <br /> <br />Commercial Sewer Customers <br /> <br />Commercial sewer rates vary by customer class, or type of business, as shown below. Charges <br />are calculated by multIplying each customer's rate by their metered water use during the billing <br />period. Commercial customers pay a minimum monthly charge equal to the residential Basic <br />Service Charge. At the public hearing, the City Council will consider publiC <br />comments, as well as any written protests against the proposed rate increase. .Proposed Water <br />and Sewer Rate Increase", or call650~780-7464. If you wish to file a written protest, please send <br />a letter or post card addressed to: Water (or Sewer) Rate Protest, 1400 Broadway, Redwood <br />CIty. CA 94063. Your letter must identify the property you own by County Assessor's Parcel <br />Number (APN), show the name(s) of the owner{s) of the property, and must be signed by at least <br />one owner of record. The letter or postcard must be received by the CIty by June 1, 2009. <br />Written protests may also be submitted in person at the hearing. <br />
