Leg Committee. or Ask League Leg Staff <br />Upcoming Events <br /> <br />CITY OFFICIALS DESCEND ON CAPITOL TO OPPOSE BUDGET PROPOSALS <br />AFFECTING CITIES <br /> <br />Close to 150 officials descended on Sacramento on Wednesday, June 3 to tell lawmakers about <br />the dire consequences that cities would experience if the state borrows local property taxes, or <br />attempts to seize or borrow transportation revenues to help close the state's $24.3 billion deficit. <br />The city officials came to the Capitol as part of the League's Budget Action Day. For more, see <br />Page 2. <br /> <br />.................................... <br /> <br />MUNICIPAL BANKRUPTCY BILL MOVES OFF ASSEMBLY FLOOR <br /> <br />AB 155 (Mendoza) moved off the Assembly floor on Wednesday, June 3 on a 47-25 vote and <br />now moves to the Senate. The bill would require local agencies contemplating bankruptcy to first <br />obtain approval from the California Debt and Investment Advisory Commission (CD lAC) prior to <br />filing for bankruptcy. Recent amendments would also authorize CDIAC to charge local <br />governments a fee to cover the costs associated with rendering a decision as to whether a <br />municipality would be granted the ability to file for bankruptcy.
