Basd on their experience and qualifications, V&A was
retained to develop the master plan. The plan includes a prioritized lis# of projects
intended #o arrest naturally occurE-ing corrosion of the City's water transmission piping to
extend te useful life of the system.
The Cathodic Protetian Project for Topaz and Redwood Shores Water Transmission
Pipeiines was the first project recommended for competion by #he master plan. V&A
designed the project, the construction contract was awarded to Cvrrpro, and the projec#
was successfully comple#ed in 2006.
Cathodic protection for the water transmission pipelines along Seaport Bouieard is the
second project recommended for completion by the master plan. The purpose of this
project is to evaluate and improve the cathodic protection systems of finro Seaport
Boulevard pipelines -- an 8-inch s#eel water distribution pipe ins#alled in 1937 and a 16-
inch steel water transmissian pipe installed in 1978. Each pipeline is approximately
9,0 fee# in length.
The evaluation and design work of this project is proposed as follows.
Phase I —"Assessment
Installation of ten new test stations, test, and anaiyze.
Phase I! —"Design of Cathodic Protection System"
Preparation of construction plans, estimates and specifications.
Staff recommends V&A for the proposed assessment and design phases of the Seaport
Boulevard VIlater Transmssian Pipelines Cathodic Pratection Project due to their
experience and past perormance on other similar City projec#s.
