M�a�a er <br /> June 22, 2��9 <br /> SUBJECT <br /> Temporary suspension of parking meter rates in downtown <br /> REC4MMENDATION <br /> Appro�e, by motion, the temporary suspension of parking meter rates on streets and <br /> city-owned parking lots in dawntown, as identified in this staff report, on Saturday, July <br /> 4, 2449. <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> On July 4th, downtown Redwood City wiil be the s�te of a large parade and celebration <br /> in honor of Independence Day. Due #o the parade �aute and various ce�ebration-related <br /> events including a "Fun Run", festival, and car show, many of downtown's metered on- <br /> street parlcing spaces will be unavailable. To accommodate these scheduled special <br /> public e�ents, staff requests#he suspension of parking meter rates on July 4, 2009 from <br /> 10:00 am through 6:4� pm on the streets and c�ty-ovuned parking lots listed below. <br /> 1) All streets bounded by Veterans Bou(e�ard, Brewster A�enue, EI Camino Real, and <br /> Wainut Street. <br /> 2} Qff-street parking �o#s: Perry �ot, VNinslow Lot, Main Street Lot, City Hall lot, and <br /> Library Lo#s A and B. <br /> Ciij► Council may temporarily suspend parking meter rates according to the City <br /> Municipal Code Section 20.133 excerp#ed as follows. <br /> Sec. 20.733. PR��/IS14NS FCiR TFMPOR�4RY SL/SPENSION OF METER R�TES: <br /> The provisions of this Drvision may be suspendecl from fime fo time by motion of the Crty <br /> CaunciJ in any case where fhe Council finds that strrct compliance would not serve the public <br /> interesf, inc/uding but not limited fo the use of pubJic streets and sidewalks for ce/ebratrons, <br /> specia!public events, celebration of holiday seasons and any other such acfivity or purpose as <br /> fhe City Council in its so�e discretion shall defermrne.
