6.2B <br /> Page 1 <br /> ���:������.�� <br /> 'Fo t#�e �#on.Qrable.��a��r:ar�� ��tY��:�:��c�� <br /> ��t����t�� �i .`�: ��[a�i�� er .-. <br /> June 22, 2009 <br /> SUBJECT <br /> Final Acceptance— Master Water Meter Replacement Project <br /> REC�MMENDATIQN <br /> Accept, by motion, the Master Vllater Meter Replacement Project for #he Boardwalk <br /> Subdivision near Marine Parkway and Shell Parkway within Redwood Shores and <br /> authorize the release of bonds and #he retention according to city procedures. <br /> BACKGROUN� <br /> 4n February 23, 2�Q9, Council awarded the construction contract for the Master Vllater <br /> Meter Replacement Praject fo� the Boardwalk Subdivision to Asfilin Pacific <br /> Construction, Inc. The work of this project included tne instalia#ion of four six-inch <br /> detectar water meters, cancrete vaul#s, piping and appurtenances, one re#aining wail, <br /> and restoration of a!I landscaping damaged as a result o#the construc�ion ac�svities. <br /> The existing four 6-inch master detector meters had out[i�ed their usefuf Iife and were <br /> outdated to the extent that services to calibrate, mainfain, and repair the equipment <br /> could no longer be secured. This project was performed within a private subdivision as <br /> the Ci�y is responsible for the maintenance of these me�ers to ensure their reliability. By <br /> replacing #he master detector meters, this project has imprvved the reliability of the <br /> masfier wa#er meters for the Boardwa(k Subdivision. <br /> The project was awarded �or a base bid of $86,9�0.�0. Construction began in March, <br /> 20�9. The project was successfully completed in accordance with #he plans and <br /> specifications. Two (2) change orders totaling $2,284.88 vuere issued. The final contract <br /> amount is $89,�84.88 which is 2.63% more than the initially awarded confiract amount. <br /> Change orders resulted from unexpected conditions encountered during canstruction. <br /> Unanticipated work included (a)the replacement af a 2-inch iRigat�on service which was <br /> removed to accammodate the installation o� the concrete �aults associated with Meter <br /> No. 3. and (b} removal of a concrete thrust biock to facili#ate the installation of the <br /> concrete vaul# for Me#er No. 2 These work items generated an additional expense of <br /> $2,284.88. <br /> ALTERNATIVES <br /> Council may choase not to accept �he project and/or not tv authorsze the re4ease of <br /> bonds and retention which would be contrary to the terms of the con#�-act, prior Council <br /> ac#ion, and the public contracting cade. <br /> FISCAL IMPACT <br /> Funding for this construction agreemen# has been previously approved and <br /> appropriated in the Fiscal Year 20�8149 budget as Wa#er Fund Capital Projecks, Mas#er <br /> MeterlBackflow Prevention. <br />
