With business hours of six days a week,
closing around 5 and not a lot of retail shoppers, it fit right into a neighborhood that already has
heavy pass-through traffic and extremely little parking. When the pool supply stofe closed I
just figured some other similar business would find this an ideal spot.

A massage parlor was the farthest idea from my mind. A search through the yellow pages
shows no less than 18 businesses offering massages within a 1.5 mile radius of this location.
This is hardly an "amenity" this neighborhood is yearning for.

A business that will likely generate much more traffic than the previous tenant will severely
impact an already over-taxed, sub-standard street. Murray Court is one of the more narrow
streets in this neighborhood of narrow streets with no sidewalks. Pedestrians! bicyclists and
motorized vehicles share the same space. The business owner can surely tell customers to
use Woodside Road exclusively but we have seen that approach fail with other commercial
establishments.

This property is not "consistent with other commercial businesses along the Woodside Road
corridor" because its parking is exclusively ona residential street with no sidewalks bordering
the parking area. In this neighborhood almost every other commercial property along
Woodside Road has access to and from Woodside Road or at the very minimum is bordered
by sidewalks which grant a bit more safety for pedestrians.

If we use the reasoning that since the property "was constructed in the 1950s under alternative
parking requirements," placing a "non-conforming" stamp on the site means that this
neighborhood will continue to be subjected to more of the same problems that have plagued it
for more than fifty years.

With the recent demise of many businesses and real estate vacancies abounding I am sure
the business applicant can find a more compatible site and the property owner can surely find
a more appropriate tenant.

Unfortunately due to my very busy schedule this year I am unable to attend the meeting on
July 13. However, along with the rest of the reasons stated in the neighborhood appeal I urge

7/6/2009
