The Federal <br /> Emergency Management Agency has determEned that a segment of levee bordering the <br /> San Carlos Airport must be impro�ed and ce�tified to pro�ide compie�e flood protection <br /> for the Redwood �ho�-es !'eninsula. <br /> Most of the San Carlos Airport levee segment is owned and maintained by San Mateo <br /> County while a sma�ler a�rea is owned by the City of San Car�as. After extensi�e staff <br /> effort to coordina�e fhe responsibility for the required impro�ements, the agencies <br /> involved ha�e pre[iminarily agreed that Redwood City will take the lead in the design <br /> and construction of the necessary improvemen#s and recover the projec� cost through <br /> reimbursemenf by the Coun�y and San Carlos. Memorandurns of Understanding are <br /> being de�eloped to govern the funding and reimbursement arrangements befi+veen <br /> Redwvod City and the County, and Redwood City and San Carlos. For the short term, <br /> suffcient funds ha�e been appropriated in the G1D 1-64 and the Capital Projec#s Fund <br /> budgets for the up frvnt costs of the improvements. <br /> BKF & Associates is curren�ly the design firm for levee improvement projects within <br /> Redwood C�y's jurisdiction. Due to the firm's expertise and the advantage of design <br /> continuity, BKF &Associates has been se[ected for the San Carlos Airport Project. <br /> ALTERNATtVES <br /> Counci[ may chvose nof tv approve �he agreement with BKF & Associates and direct <br /> staff to modify the scope of work and/or se�ect ano#her consuEtant. <br /> FISC/�OL�1l18PACT <br /> Funds in the amount of $�,745,635.00 �or the general work of this project have been <br /> appropria#ed and are available as o# July 22, 2�fl9 in the current budget as GID �-64 <br /> Facltrt�es Charge Construcfion — Exterior Levee �er��fcation. San Mateo Counfiy has <br /> also tentafi�ely comrnitted $1��,�00.00 to reimburse Redwood City for a portivn of the <br /> praje�t cost. <br />
