6.1 C <br /> Page 1 � <br /> R.����� <br /> To tne Honorable Ma�or a�d City Counc�[ <br /> Fr�om the City IaAar�a��e.r <br /> August 10, 2�49 <br /> SUBJECT <br /> Agreement with Ca{lander Associates in the amvunt of $132,716.04 for professional <br /> services re�evant to the Hawes Park �mprovement Pro�ect <br /> REC4MMENDATION <br /> Approve, by motion, the professional service agreement with Callander Associates for <br /> the Hawes Park Improvement Project in an amount not to exceed $132,716.�0 and <br /> authorize the Ciiy Manager to increase the contract amount up to 1 fl°/a if necessary. <br /> - BACKGR4UND <br /> Hawes Park is primarily used as a baseball field and also accammodates Junior 49ers <br /> football and youth socces-. lt :s one of seven sport �elds ide;�tifed for conversion of the <br /> play[ng su�Face frorn natural grass to synthetic turf in the Recycled Water Task Force <br /> Report dated March 3, 2�04, and presented to Council on March 22, 2004. Converting <br /> spor#s �elds from nat�ra! turf to synthetic t�r# reduces the demand on �otable water <br /> supplies, decreases long terrn operating costs, and increases the availability �f the <br /> facilities. <br /> In addition fio fieid conversion, the improvements to Hawes Park include new, much <br /> needed shade structures, bleachers, dugouts, concession tacility, ADA comp�iant <br /> res�rooms, scorekeeper's boo�h, and scoreboards. <br /> Callander Associates has been seiec#ed for fiheir expertise from a poo! of four pre- <br /> qualifed design firms by a consul�ant selection committee comprised of staff frvm t�e <br /> city's Engineering and Parks, Recreation, and Cammunity Services departments and <br /> park commissioners. <br /> ALTERNATIVES <br /> CounciE may choose not to appro�e the agreernent with Callander Associates and direct <br /> staff to modify the scope of wark andfor sefect another consultani�. <br /> FISCAI.INlPACT <br /> Funds for the turf conversion work of this project ha�e been pre�iously appropriated as <br /> Water Bond Projects Fund — Recycled I/l/afer System Development which has an <br /> available baiance of $894,135.40. Funds for impro�ements other than the turf' <br /> co�version have been p�eviously appropr�ated as Capital Projects Fund -- Hawes Park <br /> B�eacher Projecf which has an aWailable balance of$715,362.�0. <br />
