08/10/2009 <br />ORIGINAL <br />RESOLUTION NO. 14958 <br />A RESOLUTION OF INTENTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />REDWOOD CITY INITIATING THE PROCESS FOR EVALUATING A <br />POTENTIAL AMENDMENT TO THE STRATEGIC GENERAL PLAN OF THE <br />CITY OF REDWOOD CITY REQUESTING THAT CITY STAFF REVIEW AND <br />RECOMMEND AN APPROPRIATE GENERAL PLAN LAND USE <br />DESIGNATION FOR THE SALTWORKS PROPOSAL <br />WHEREAS, an application has been submitted to the City of Redwood City ( "City ") by <br />DMB Redwood City Saltworks, LLC ( "Saltworks ") to construct the Saltworks Proposal (the <br />"Project "). DMB proposes to develop approximately 1436 -acres as shown on the map attached <br />hereto and incorporated herein as Exhibit "A." <br />WHEREAS, the Project proposes a mixed use community with between 8,000 and <br />12,000 new housing units. The Project proposal includes a sports complex, parks, greenways, <br />recreational waterways, and provides for over 400 acres of actively restored tidal marsh <br />habitats. The Project also proposes numerous community facilities, commercial /office <br />development, several schools, and related infrastructure as set forth in the "Executive <br />Summary" dated May 2009, on file and made available in the City Clerk's Office and <br />incorporated herein as Exhibit "B ". <br />WHEREAS, implementation of the Project would require the amendment of the Strategic <br />General Plan of the City of Redwood City ( "General Plan ") from the existing "Open Space and <br />Urban Reserve" land use designation to a different land use designation that is appropriate for <br />the land uses proposed for the Project. <br />WHEREAS, Section 18.61 of the Redwood City Municipal Code provides for the <br />adoption by the City Council of a resolution of intention to amend the General Plan. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />REDWOOD CITY AS FOLLOWS: <br />1. The recitals set forth above are true and correct. and are hereby incorporated by this <br />reference as if fully set forth in their entirety. <br />2. That the City Council hereby initiates the process for evaluating a potential <br />amendment to the General Plan, and hereby requests that City staff review and recommend an <br />appropriate general plan land use designation for the Project. <br />3.
