Maguire Correctional Facility.

BACKGROUND
In September 2003 City Council approved a Cooperative Agreement (Agreement) with
SMC for public use of the County parking structure located at Middlefield Road and
Veterans Boulevard. This agreement made available 797 spaces for free public parking
in the Downtown during evenings and weekends.

In 2007 City staff was approached by SMC to waive the fee charged to the Combined
Courts of the County of San Mateo for the shared use of parking meters on Arguello
Street between Brewster Avenue and Marshall Street. This fee waiver was approved in
the First Amendment to the Cooperative Agreement. Around the same time, SMC
requested a waiver of the fee charged for three spaces on Bradford Street in front of the
Brendan McGuire Correctional Facility. These three spaces are marked as A6-07, A6-
11 and A6-12 on Exhibit 2A (attached). Use of these parking stalls facilitates the
efficient administration and execution of publiC safety duties by the SMC Sheriff's Office,
thereby ensuring the continued safety of Redwood City and San Mateo County
residents. Waiving the fee for use of these spaces is consistent with the
intergovernmental cooperation demonstrated by the City and County.

AL TERNA TIVES
Continue charging SMC for the three parking spaces.

FISCAL IMPACT
By waiving the parking fees on these three parking spaces the City's parking fund will
forgo eighteen hundred dollars annually.

) e /
1(;~1 e~{v ~ ~'~,i:(.
