Please see the Aug. 21 issue of <br />City Advocate Week/v for a more detailed description of ABx314. <br /> <br />'CCLI' Continued from Page 1... <br /> <br />Former Assembly Speaker Pro Tem Fred Keeley kicked off the trip to Big Creek with a discussion <br />in Fresno on structural issues and potential ideas for state governance reform. <br /> <br /> <br />Mike Madrid, League of Callromla Cllies director of public affairs, <br />moderates a session with CCLI alumni and now Assembly <br />Members Anthony Portantino and Curt Hagman about their <br />experiences lransitioning from positions as city elected officials to <br />the Le islature. <br /> <br />The 2009 CCLI class met last week with <br />some of the state's top political experts <br />including Assembly Members Curt <br />Hagman (R-Diamond Bar) and Anthony <br />Portantino (D-Pasadena), who are CCLI <br />graduates, former Senate Republican <br />Leader Jim Brulte, former Assembly <br />Speaker Bob Hertzberg, political <br />consultants Garry South and Dan <br />Schnur as well as members of the media <br />and lobbyists. <br /> <br />CCLI, the League Partner-sponsored <br />educational program has graduated a <br />total of 80 participants in its five years. <br />The program was originally created for <br />city elected officials looking to run for the <br />State Legislature in response to the <br />increased turnover and loss of historical <br />knowledge because of term limits in the <br />legislature. <br /> <br />CCLI gives local leaders a broad, in-depth understanding of how critical issues as well as an <br />introduction to some of the tools they will need to succeed if elected to the Legislature. The <br />experience also provides an opportunity to create long-term relationships among California's <br />rising leadership. <br /> <br />The League congratulates its 2009 CCLI class: <br />.
