ABERG - PRINCIPAL <br /> <br />Roland is an urban planner, site/master planner and registered landscape architect with over 30 years <br />of experience in serving public and private clients. A graduate of Cornell University, the University of <br />Oregon and the University of California, Berkeley, he has majored in landscape architecture, architecture <br />and planning. In addition to an undergraduate degree in landscape architecture, he also holds a Master of <br />Architecture and a Master of Landscape Architecture degree from Berkeley and Oregon respectively.. He <br />has been with Hart Howm:ton for the past 20 years. Roland is a member of the Urban Land Institute and the <br />American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), and is a Registered Landscape Architect in California, <br />Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Washington. <br /> <br />Professional Experience <br />The .6tst landmark project in Roland Aberg's professional career was the award-winning. visionary master <br />plan for the Indianapolis \Vhite River Park conceived in 1980 while working with the firm of Danadjieva <br />and Koenig Associates. (DKA). During his ten years with DKA, Roland brought to bear his bold vision and <br />creative design talent in planning and design for the Washington State Convention and Trade Center in Seattle <br />as well as the Mission Bay development in San Francisco where he was part of the City of San Francisco <br />Planning Department team. Both won national awards and recognition for design excellence. Additional <br />award-winning work included the master planning and design for the West Point Water Treatment Facilities <br />and regional waterfront park on Elliott Bay in Seattle, WA. Prior to his Wo.rk with DKA, Roland spent three <br />years in London working with Derek Lovejoy and Partners in a multitude of projects including planning <br />for the impacts of England's North Sea Oil industry, campus master planning and design for the Plymouth <br />Naval Academy, in addition to a variety of land reclamation projects and mixed-use developments. <br /> <br />Roland joined the firm of Hart Howerton (then called Robert Lamb Hart) in 1988. He subsequently became <br />a Principal and now heads the J\.finnesota office. He has been a principal with the San Francisco office for <br />most of his tenure with Hart Howerton and divides his time between both offices. <br /> <br />Hart Howerton is a team of planners, architects, landscape architects and interior designers with offices <br />in New York, San Francisco, London, Vail, Park City. Minneapolis and Boston. The mainstream of their <br />international practice is master planning new communities and designing the landmark buildings and <br />landscapes that make them succeed. The firm has worked in all regions of the United States, in Europe. <br />Asia, Latin America, and around the Pacific Rim. <br /> <br />While at Hart Howe.cton, Roland has continued his innovative and thoughtful planning and design work in <br />a host of landmark projects around the country. Most notable has been his role heading a large design team <br />in creating the master plan and vision for the Bridges of Saint Paul. a major mixed-use urban development <br />on the Mississippi River in the heart of downtown St. Paul. Other projects include his master plan work <br />for the Pellissippi Research and Development Park supporting the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. the <br />Gateway Valley Master Plan for a 1,700 acre valley in the east hills of San Francisco Bay, the conceptual <br />master plan for the historic downtown district of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, and his work as part of the Hart <br />Howe.cton team for the 20,000 acre Santa Lucia Preserve in Monterey. CA. He has also led the team that has <br />created the initial conceptual master plan and land management strategy for the Honeywell family estate on <br />Lake Minnetonka, MN, and more recently has spearheaded a multi-agency team in creating a vision for the <br />lvlinnehaha Creek Corridor master plan in the City of Minnetonka, MN. <br /> <br />In leading multi-disciplinary professional teams, Roland works with and coordinates civil engineers, geologists, <br />soil engineers, traffic consultants, economists. architects, landscape architects, biologists. hydrologists, etc... <br />In guiding projects through approval processes, he routinely deals with community interest groups as well <br />as government agency officials and their staffs.
