CLK-Yessika Dominguez
From: Emil Hansco
Sent: Tuesday, April 13, 2021 4:03 PM
To: GRP -City Council
Subject: Public Comment: POLICE ADVISORY COMMITTEE INTERVIEWS - Agenda Item 3
Categories: Red Category
CAUTION: This email originated from outside your organization. Exercise caution when opening attachments
or clicking links, especially from unknown senders.
Good afternoon,
I am writing about tonight's Police Advisory Committee interviews. In light of national events, I am urging the council
members to select community members who have been directly impacted by poor policing policies in the past,
supportive of police defunding or reform, and/or have shown strong dedication to civil rights initiatives.
Given both the purpose of this committee and the events that drove its creation, I don't believe it is appropriate to have
current/former law enforcement officers on the panel. The panel is already tasked with working directly with RCPD; if
officers are on the committee itself, then the committee becomes nothing more than an extension of the police
department and members will not be able to exercise independence. Panel members should also display empathy to our
unhoused, non-white and neurodivergent residents because they are much more likely to be impacted by law
enforcement.
I urge you to appoint the following community members to the panel: Rocsana Enriquez, Hanna Haddad, Clara Jaeckel,
Gregory Trimble and Mary Winfield.
Thank you,
Emil Hanscom
