From:
To: GRP -City Council
Subject: 4.12. 21 CC Mtng General Public Comment
Date: Monday, April 12, 20218:06:53 PM
CAUTION: This email originated from outside your organization. Exercise caution when
opening attachments or clicking links, especially from unknown senders.
Good evening City Council my name is Marcelene Luna a resident of Redwood
City and would like to make a public comment on an event being hosted by the
Chamber of Commerce of San Mateo County this Wednesday April 14th where
there's a $25 registration fee and the guest speakers are Mayor Diane Howard, Vice
Mayor Giselle Hale and Supervisor Warren Slocum. When I asked on Instagram
why there was a fee to listen to our elected officials ? Vice Mayor Hale replied that
" the entire State of the City was delivered at our City Council meeting on march
15th and that it could be reviewed for free....and that this is a recap to the chamber
members" Why do our elected officials need to give them a recap ? Why not play
the presentation that the public received ? Why the special treatment ?
It is unethical for an elitist organization to profit from public officials making a
presentation. The Chamber of Commerce is a "pay to play organization" their PAC
top 3 contributions in 2020 went to Standing w / Conservatives, Mitch McConell
and David Perdue.
I'm asking that our elected officials do not engage with organizations that charge
fees for their benefit. Unless if this is a common practice then any business should
be allowed the same access to our elected officials.... please re -consider attending
this event or making it free for everyone to attend.
Thank you !
Marcelene Luna
