Restated and Amended Drainage Easement Agreement for the Bayfront Canal; and
2. Permanent Drainage Easement Agreement for the Bayfront Canal and Atherton Channel Flood
Resilience and Habitat Restoration Project.
STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE
Public Safety
BACKGROUND
The Bayfront Canal was originally built by Leslie Salt Company (Leslie) in approximately 1945 on land
owned by Leslie. The Bayfront Canal extends from Douglas Court to Marsh Road just south of Leslie's salt
drying beds. The canal is the single stormwater conveyance that collects runoff from the Atherton Channel
and six drainage basins and discharges the stormwater flows through a single outlet to Flood Slough, then
out to the Bay. In addition to Redwood City, various neighboring jurisdictions, including unincorporated
San Mateo County, the City of Menlo Park, and the towns of Atherton and Woodside, all contribute runoff
to the Bayfront Canal through flows to the Atherton Channel and/or other drainage basins.
In 1952, the Leslie Salt Company granted a right of way to both Redwood City and San Mateo County
(County) for the purpose of constructing, maintaining and operating storm drain facilities.
