6.H. - Page 1 of 17 <br />/<�ik <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />Faunded 1867 <br />Ago/ <br />DATE: April 26, 2021 <br />SUBJECT <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />Agreement for services with Cal -West Lighting and Signal Maintenance, Inc. for electrical maintenance of <br />street lights and traffic signals <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />By motion, approve and authorize the City Manager to execute a one-year agreement for services with <br />Cal -West Lighting and Signal Maintenance, Inc. for electrical maintenance of street lights and traffic signals <br />in an amount not to exceed $575,000, including City Manager authority to extend the agreement for three <br />consecutive, two-year terms, for an aggregate not -to -exceed amount of $4,681,655. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE <br />Public Safety <br />BACKGROUND <br />While the Public Works Services Department (PWS) is responsible for the City's street lights, traffic signals, <br />and lighted crosswalks, adequate evaluation and maintenance of these assets require highly specialized <br />technical skills and knowledge related to electrical equipment and components, which include signal <br />controller and electrical service cabinets, backup batteries, and electrical wires. Therefore, the City <br />requires assistance from an outside contractor with the appropriate technical skillset to guide and <br />perform recurring maintenance efforts, consult on emergency service requests for traffic signal and street <br />light technologies, and identify underground electrical utilities. <br />This work critically preserves public traffic and pedestrian safety by preventing and minimizing hazards <br />caused by damaged or malfunctioning traffic signals, lighted crosswalks, and street lights. <br />Page 1 of 3 <br />City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore <br />155 <br />
