No formal action will occur at this meeting. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE <br />Housing <br />BACKGROUND <br />Redwood City's General Plan describes policies for how the City will grow and change over the next two <br />decades with a vision for 2030. As part of that plan, it has sections called "elements" that address Housing, <br />Land Use, Safety, and Circulation among others. In California, General Plans serve as a blueprint for all <br />future development. The Redwood City General Plan was adopted in October 2010 with a separate <br />Housing Element last adopted in 2014. <br />Every eight years, Redwood City and all other California jurisdictions are required to revise and update <br />the Housing Element consistent with State law. Redwood City will be evaluating its Housing Element at <br />the same time as other jurisdictions throughout the Peninsula and the Bay Area. All of these cities must <br />complete and submit their Housing Elements to the State by January 2023 or face the possibility of <br />funding cuts, loss of housing grant eligibility, and fines.
