CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br />PROPOSED JOB DESCRIPTION <br />LIBRARY ASSISTANT I <br />LIBRARY ASSISTANT II <br />DEFINITION <br />To perform an increasing level of customer service and other technical and clerical <br />library work as assigned. <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTIC <br />Library Assistant I: This is the entry level class in the paraprofessional Library <br />Assistant series. This class is distinguished from the Library Assistant II by the <br />performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within the <br />series. Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees may have <br />limited work experience. <br />Librgry Assistant li This is the full journey level class within the paraprofessional <br />Library Assistant series. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally <br />filled by advancement from the lower class of Library Assistant I, or, when filled from <br />the outside, require prior paraprofessional library experience. Appointing authority <br />will approve promotion to higher class based upon the employee's ability to perform <br />substantially the full range of duties for the class and meet the qualification <br />standards for the class. Employees within this class are distinguished from the <br />Library Assistant I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned <br />including those that require the knowledge of general department policies and <br />procedures. Employees at this level perform a high level of customer service, <br />receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, <br />and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br />Library Assistant I_ <br />Receives immediate supervision from higher level library personnel. Functional or <br />technical supervision may also be received from higher level department staff. <br />Library Assistant fl <br />Receives general supervision from higher level library personnel.
