5. SPECIAL ORDERS OF THE DAY <br /> A. Proclamation: Recognizing Codexis — Dr. Alan Shaw, Chief Executive Officer <br /> Mayor Foust presented the proclamation to Dr. Shaw who spoke about this company and <br /> its various contributions to the community. Codexis employs 300 people in Redwood City <br /> and Dr. Shaw was appreciative of the recognition. <br /> B. Presentation: Green Business Certification for Four Businesses — <br /> Malcolm Smith, Public Communications Manager <br /> Mayor Foust welcomed the four new green businesses and they were: Care2.Com, <br /> Lyngso Garden Materials, The Office City, and Trillium Dental. Representatives from all <br /> four businesses were present. All the Council Members joined the Mayor as she <br /> presented the certificates and congratulated the new green businesses. <br /> 6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> Cherlene Wright, representing the Housing and Human Concerns Committee and its <br /> partnership with Threshold 2009, said they are holding a series of community <br /> conversations. She announced information on upcoming forums and more details can be <br /> found at www.threshold2009.orq or by calting 650-655-5851. <br /> Kuk Chung said he lives in San Jose and he has a small apartment building in downtown <br /> Redwood City. He said that he received a letter about having to place garbage bins on the <br /> curb, but he does not support this approach because it is hard for him to come and take <br /> out the garbage for his tenants on a weekly basis. <br /> Mayor Foust referred the matter to the City Manager. <br /> Clem Molony, with the Sequoia YMCA Board of Directors, talked about the programs <br /> offered by this organization in support of the community. Some of the programs <br /> mentioned included education to fight obesity and promote physical health for 2,400 <br /> Redwood City students. He announced an upcoming fundraiser called Monte Carlo Night <br /> on August 29, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. He added that the funds raised will be used to support <br /> community services. <br /> Timothy Lease, a downtown business owner, and Chamber of Commerce member spoke <br /> about item 7B encouraging the Council to go forward with this matter. <br /> Janet Borgens said she wished to complain, compliment and celebrate since the streets in <br /> the Friendly Acres Neighborhood are getting fixed. While there is disruption, it is for a <br /> good cause and she asked people to be patient. She thanked the Council and staff for <br /> addressing this long standing issue especially in tough economic times. <br /> M/S Ira/Aguirre to approve the Consent Calendar. <br /> Mayor Foust expressed her support for agenda item 6.1 C and thanked the Council, staff <br /> and the taskforce for their work.
