3) Reiterate the sites that Redwood City wants to have studied,
4) Consider the County's 2025 Shared Vision and Redwood City's Downtown
Plan,
5) Share surprise and disappointment at the single site recommendation.
It was suggested that the Chamber of Commerce weigh in and the Downtown Business
Group. Council discussed ways to inform the community about this recommendation
including the city's e-newsletter and clarifying the implications of the sheriff's
recommendation. Mayor Foust believes there might be other sites that will be more
adequate and she had hoped that other opportunities would be considered.
Mayor Foust said that part of the request is to delay the decision, and secondly work with
the County Manager and the City Manager and the Mayor and the Vice Mayor and explain
the city's position and approach. Council agreed with sending out a letter that outlines
what was discussed tonight, and simultaneously asks for a delay and includes the
above mentioned bullet points. The letter will be partnered with personal individual
meetings of Council with Supervisors and possibly a staff presentation to the Board of
Supervisors. Council discussed that the goal might be to inform and disseminate the
report so that the community is aware of the report. Various Council Members thanked
the Mayor and the Chair of the Planning Commission for their work on the JPAC.
(Between 10:05 p.m. and 11:35 p.m. the City Council discussed this agenda item.
