6.2B <br /> Page 1 <br /> REP�RT <br /> To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> From the Ci Mana er <br /> October 12, 2009 <br /> SUBJECT <br /> Final Acceptance — Redwood City Recycfed Water Project -- Phase I — Redwood <br /> Shores Customer Site Retrofits — Potable Water Reduced Pressure Principle Backflow <br /> Device Installation Proje�t <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> Accept, by motion, the Redwood City Recycled Water Project — Phase I — Redwood <br /> Shores Gustomer Site Retrofits — Potable Water Reduced Pressure Principle Backflow <br /> Device Installation Project, and authorize the release of bonds and retention according <br /> to the city's procedures. <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> 4n January 28, 2�08, the city awarded the contra�t for the Redwood City Recycled <br /> Water Project— Phase I — Redwood City Recycled Water Project— Phase I — Redwood <br /> Shores Customer Site Retrofits — Potable Water Reduced Pressure Principle Backflow <br /> Device Installation Project to the lowest responsible bidder, West Valley Construction <br /> Inc., of Menlo Park for their low bid of$87,890.00. <br /> This customer site retrofit project extends the delivery of recycled water to new <br /> commercial irrigation and city roadway landscape customers in Redwood Shores. New <br /> pressure reducing backflow devices were installed on existing potable water systems to <br /> accommodate the use of recycled water per California Department of Public Health's <br /> Recycled Water Regulations Title 17 and Title 22. <br /> The project has been successfully completed in accordance with the plans and <br /> specifications for a total cost of �96,107.89. One (1} change order was issued in the <br /> amount of $8,271.89, which is 8% more than the originally awarded contract amount. <br /> Additional work was required due to site condi#ions identified after exca�a#ion. <br /> ALTERNATIVES <br /> Council may choose not to accept the project, or not to authorize the release of bonds <br /> and retention which would be contrary to the terms of the agreement for this work. <br /> FISCAL IMPACT <br /> Funds have been appropriated from the Water Revenue Bond proceeds. The City has <br /> issued a series of three Water Revenue Bonds to finance Phase 1 0# the Recycled <br /> Water Projeet. Currently available project funds, less unaitributed interest, total <br /> $6,542,358.86 as of August 31, 2009. <br />
