<br /> <br /> <br />March 15, 2021 <br />For Immediate Release <br /> <br />THE COUNTY OF SAN MATEO LAUNCHES <br />2021 MULTIJURISDICTIONAL LOCAL HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN UPDATE <br />MULTIPLE OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE FOR PUBLIC INPUT <br /> <br />The County of San Mateo, led by the Office of Emergency Services, has begun to develop the County’s updated <br />Multijurisdictional Local Hazard Mitigation Plan to address threats such as earthquake, flooding, extreme <br />heat, and landslide. <br /> <br />The County needs your help identifying solutions to the problems <br />associated with natural hazards. <br /> <br />For Phase 1, the public is invited to participate in the hazard mitigation plan by: <br />1) filling out a survey about San Mateo County’s natural hazard risks <br />https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RG5GTPS , <br />2) attending the first virtual public workshop on Thursday, March 25 at 4:00 PM <br />https://cmo.smcgov.org/events/march-25-2021-preparing-hazards-san-mateo-county-local-hazard- <br />mitigation-plan-public-workshop; and/or <br />3) attending a virtual Steering Committee meeting on March 22 at 2:00 PM <br />https://cmo.smcgov.org/events/march-22-2021-hazard-mitigation-plan-update-steering-committee- <br />meeting. <br /> <br />An updated Multijurisdictional Local Hazard Mitigation Plan will serve as a meaningful template for a more <br />resilient and sustainable San Mateo County. The plan looks at how the County of San Mateo and its planning <br />partners can reduce its impact of natural hazards such as earthquake, flooding, extreme heat, and landslide. <br />Once approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the plan ensures the County of San <br />Mateo and its partners remain eligible for pre- and post-disaster mitigation project grant funding through <br />FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Assistance programs and other non -emergency disaster assistance like FEMA’s <br />new Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) program.
