<br />RES 0 L UTI 0 N <br /> <br />N O. <br /> <br />787 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION OPPOSING EFFORTS OF SOUTHERN PACIFIC COMPANY <br />TO INCREASE RATES UPON ITS PENINSULA LINES <br /> <br />WHEREAS it has COIne to the B,ttention of the 01 ty Council <br />of the City of Redwood City, state of California, that the <br />Southern Pacific Company desires to and intends to attempt to <br />obtain authorization to increase the fares now being charged <br />by it for commuter service upon the San Francisco Peninsula; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS many residents of the City of Redwood City regu- <br />larly ride upon trains operated by the Southern Pacific Company <br />bet~ween points upon the San Franciseo Peninsula; and <br />WHEREAS it would work a great hardSUp upon such residents <br />to be forced to pay additional sums for such transportation; and <br />vlliEREAS it 1s the opinion of 1:;he Oi ty Council of the City <br />of Redwood City that the Southern Pacific Company is not justi- <br />fied in seeking to increase such rates; and <br />WHEREAS it would be for the bE~st interests of the City of <br />Redwood City and its inhabitants thereof, and to the best inter- <br />ests of the other cities, communities and residents of the San <br />Fr~~cisco Peninsula that such rates for transportation do not be <br />increased; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLV~) by the City Council of the <br />City of Redwood City, State of California, that the said City <br />Council go on record as being opposed to any increase of rates <br />by the Southern Pacific Company for transportation furnished to <br />citizens of the City of Redwood City or citizens of other por- <br />tions of the San Francisco Peninsula; and <br />That the Clerk of the City of Rea~vood City, State of Cali- <br />fornia, be directed to file a certij~ied copy of this resolution <br /> <br />-1- <br />
