Kennedy/Jenks Consultants

Phong Du, PE
City of Redwood City
31 August 2009
Page 3

. Run one (1) scenario without the Delta 10 pressure control strategy. The
specific scenario that will be run will depend on the results of the timeline-
based analysis tool.
. Run three (3) additional scenarios, using scenarios defined by the City. The
criteria for each additional scenario will be documented with City input to
provide a documented basis for each model run and a basis for subsequent
interpretation.
. Evaluate the need for Booster Pump Station and remote storage, including
preliminary location and configuration (single pressure zone or dual pressure
zone). Up to two (2) locations and two (2) piping configurations will be
studied. No additional model runs will be conducted to perform this
evaluation; the evaluation will be based on the model runs defined here as
part of Task 2.a.

Meetings: This Subtask includes attendance by 2 engineers at 2 meetings to
discuss the modeling results and r~view the graphical, timeline-based analysis
tool. This Subtask also includes attendance of 2 engineers at 1 workshop to
discuss the booster pump and/or remote storage evaluation.

Deliverables: Hydraulic Modeling Results Technical Memorandum;
Timeline-Based System Analysis Chart

b. Pre-Design Considerations

This Subtask will be used to assist the City in addressing design considerations
that are anticipated to affect DPS Capacity Improvements Design (Task 3) and
pump station operation in the future. The design considerations that will be
addressed are:

. Delta 10 - confirm current design criteria
. Pump discharge pressure - confirm current design criteria
. Level of Service - assist City with definition
. Design Peaking Factor - assist City with definition
. Need for second accumulator - confirm current design criteria
. Pump combination for next Increment - assist City with definition

Subtask 2.b will include limited effort to review the following issues that will be
used in the development of design criteria to be used in Task 3:

. Sensitivity analysis of pump discharge at lower DPS discharge pressure
. Review of current control strategy to identify the following:
o Operational advantages of modifying the pump redundancy configuration
o Operational advantages of modifying pump operating point, -regardless of
efficiency, for peak periods, to achieve greater capacity.

http://sfosp/redwoodcity/rw .startup.2007/project managementldps capacity improvements projectldps.capacity.increaseJelter.proposal.doc
