10/12/2009 <br />ORIGINAL <br />RESOLUTION NO. 14974 <br />A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY'S <br />MEMBERSHIP IN THE BAY AREA CLIMATE COLLABORATIVE AND <br />AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO BECOME A SIGNATORY OF THE <br />BAY AREA CLIMATE CHANGE COMPACT <br />WHEREAS, the State of California has established climate change goals set <br />forth in AB 32, the Global Warming Solutions Act; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City recognizes the need for immediate, <br />coordinated and visionary action to reduce greenhouse gasses to meet the State <br />mandated goals; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City is establishing organizational and <br />community greenhouse gas reduction goals and programs; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City understands the challenges of global <br />warming are regional in nature and can be best addressed in partnership with other <br />agencies and private entities; and <br />WHEREAS, the Bay Area Climate Collaborative is a public - private partnership of <br />municipalities, business groups, regional agencies, environmental organizations, <br />educational institutions; and <br />WHEREAS, the Bay Area Climate Collaborative is dedicated to achieving 10 <br />climate change goals to effectively address the challenge of climate change and sustain <br />our quality of life, as defined in the Bay Area Climate Change Compact, attached hereto <br />as Exhibit A; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City desires to join the Bay Area Climate <br />Collaborative in furtherance of these goals. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br />HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: <br />1. All of the recitals set forth above are true and correct. <br />2. The City Council of the City of Redwood City (the "City ") intends to join the <br />Bay Area Climate Collaborative, the goals of which are set forth in the Bay <br />Area Climate Collaborative Compact (the Compact "), attached hereto as <br />Exhibit A; and <br />ATTY /RESO /RESO.1951 <br />100509 <br />#14974 <br />MUFF # 205 <br />1 <br />
