10/12/2009 ORIGINAL RESOLUTION NO. 14974 A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY'S MEMBERSHIP IN THE BAY AREA CLIMATE COLLABORATIVE AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO BECOME A SIGNATORY OF THE BAY AREA CLIMATE CHANGE COMPACT WHEREAS, the State of California has established climate change goals set forth in AB 32, the Global Warming Solutions Act; and WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City recognizes the need for immediate, coordinated and visionary action to reduce greenhouse gasses to meet the State mandated goals; and WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City is establishing organizational and community greenhouse gas reduction goals and programs; and WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City understands the challenges of global warming are regional in nature and can be best addressed in partnership with other agencies and private entities; and WHEREAS, the Bay Area Climate Collaborative is a public - private partnership of municipalities, business groups, regional agencies, environmental organizations, educational institutions; and WHEREAS, the Bay Area Climate Collaborative is dedicated to achieving 10 climate change goals to effectively address the challenge of climate change and sustain our quality of life, as defined in the Bay Area Climate Change Compact, attached hereto as Exhibit A; and WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City desires to join the Bay Area Climate Collaborative in furtherance of these goals. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: 1. All of the recitals set forth above are true and correct. 2. The City Council of the City of Redwood City (the "City ") intends to join the Bay Area Climate Collaborative, the goals of which are set forth in the Bay Area Climate Collaborative Compact (the Compact "), attached hereto as Exhibit A; and ATTY /RESO /RESO.1951 100509 #14974 MUFF # 205 1
