VISION AND GOALS <br />PARKS, RECREATION & COMMUNITY SERVICES NEEDS ASSESSMENT | 27 <br />and would benefi t from activities held closer to home. <br />The participants indicated that an alternative would be <br />to provide transportation to the Veterans Memorial <br />Senior Center. <br />Red Morton Park <br />Many community survey participants (60%) identifi ed <br />Red Morton Park as their favorite park. An even <br />greater proportion (89%) use Red Morton Park to <br />some extent. The 11% of respondents who do not <br />use Red Morton Park indicated that it was because <br />the park does not off er the type of activities the <br />participant is looking for; it is diffi cult to get to; they <br />are too busy; and/or they are not interested. <br />Trails and Trail Activities <br />Forty percent (43%) of community survey participants <br />would like to see more trails for walking and running. <br />Interview and focus group participants agreed, <br />explaining that residents would benefi t from new trails <br />and pathways to improve park access and provide a <br />low-cost transportation alternative. These participants <br />further expressed a desire for trail connections <br />between parks and schools and additional active <br />transportation infrastructure more broadly. Interview <br />and focus groups participants would also like trail <br />connections to the Marina, Bay Trail, and Bair Island. <br />Program Participation <br />Many community survey participants (58%) participate <br />in City programs. Among the most popular are youth <br />sports, summer camps and events. According to <br />interview and focus group participants, the City off ers <br />a wide range of programs. These participants also <br />noted that the City’s high-quality sport leagues provide <br />a regional draw. <br />Community survey participants who do not participate <br />in City programs (42%) indicate that they use other <br />recreation providers, they do not have time to <br />participate and/or they are not familiar with what is <br />available. <br />Play and Multigenerational Play <br />Although child-oriented activities, facilities and <br />programs were among the most popular and desired <br />activities, facilities and programs, the survey responses <br />indicated ongoing needs for adult-, elder- and <br />intergenerational-focused activities, facilities and <br />programs. <br />7.A. - Page 45 of 66 <br />157
