7A
certification from Build It Green or LEED for marketing or other reasons. For projectsPage 3
10,000 square feet or greater, a GreenPoint Rater or LEED AP is required to verify that
the project has been constructed in accordance with the approved green building
project checklist. This requirement should not be a hardship as most architectural,
engineering, and contracting firms have staff with these credentials.

Education is an important component to a successful green building ordinance. The city
website will be improved to have information and links to green building methods.
Copies of the 2009 Green Building Guidelines have been purchased and will be
provided to city customers. Additional handouts on green building techniques will be
developed. Staff is available to answer questions and provide assistance in complying
with the proposed Green Building Code.

AL TERNA TIVES
1. Refer any significant suggested modifications of the proposed code to the Board of
Building Review for analysis and recommendation.

2. Do not adopt a code at this time, in anticipation of a state-wide code being
mandatory around January 2011.

3. After appropriate public notice, adopt another model code such as the California
Green Building Standards Code or the National Green Building Standards Code.

FISCAL IMPACT
The proposed ordinance and subsequent operating procedures will have no fiscal
impact. The costs for training, education, handout materials, certification of staff, plan
review, and inspection have been and will be absorbed in the adopted Building
Infrastructure and Transportation budget. There are no proposed changes to the current
plan review and building permit fees.

~~
n LaTorfa
Building Manager

ChUCha~AP~

Building, Infrastructure, and Transportation Director

Peter Ingram
City Manager

ATTACHMENTS
1.
