meaningful capacity building. Our vision: designing monthly modules around 3 main
modules:
m Community building/ schoolwide outreach
■ Educational partners/ At home learning
• System navigation/ Community resources
Each module (meeting) will follow same script:
• learning and reflection: working through that module's content and creating probing
questions -> building the participants' capacity. Changing how they view their role
in their family, community, and school.
• Action: trying it out ourselves, sharing with others. -> sharing the tools school -wide:
disseminating knowledge promotoras style.
RCSD will start working with all Community Schools in the fall. By partnering with parents in
a deeper capacity, where we support their skill acquisition beyond outreach and onto content
dissemination, RCSD Community Schools will be able to reach more families in more
informal spaces and touchpoints, and overcome the presence -based requirements.
Content created for the family leadership teams will be replicated and shared through
available RCSD mediums, including newsletters, social media, blast texts, and videos or
podcasts. Both groups, the district committee and the RWC2020 Socios program, will work
in collaboration and alignment to measure results will work in collaboration and alignment to
measure results.
Some of the outcomes that will be measured through this program include:
% increase in families enrolled in social service supports through pre -post surveys.
• % increase in family participation at schools, through school participation data.
• # of touch -points between parent promotoras and community.
• % of families that can positively name their role in their children's learning and
development, through pre -post surveys.
2. Supporting every child: Improving individual outcomes and supporting at risk
youth
Understanding that even with strong home-school connections some students will have
higher needs, we are developing a new framework to support every student in their individual
needs.
Out of this need, RCSD Community Schools commissioned the Gardner Center Research
Project on Student Study Teams (SSTs) 3. The products of this work will include supports
that improve behavior, attendance, and academic outcomes.
The RCSD SST Improvement Task Force4 partnered with the John Gardner Center to do a
big scale research project to understand (diagnose) the processes and resources our
3 https:Hgardnercenter.stanford.edu/
a District members: Assessment and Student Services, Special Education Department, and Community
Schools.
REV: 04-17-2020 RL
ATTY/AGR.2020.065/Redwood City Community Schools (Page 7 of 8)
