REPORT 6.2A age 1 To the Honorable Mayor and City Council From the Ci Mana er November 9,2009 SUBJECT Second Resolution in support of Public Works Services Department's submission of a CAL FIRE grant request in the amount of $51,934 for an Urban Forestry Inventory RECOMMENDATION Adopt another resolution in support of the request by Public Works Services to CAL FIRE for a $51,934 grant to perform an inventory of the City's publicly maintained trees in the urban forest. BACKGROUND The Public Works Services Department submitted an Urban Forestry Inventory Concept Application and was informed on January 9, 2009, that the Concept Application was deemed eligible for the next step in the application process. At the March 23, 2009 meeting of the City Council, Resolution No. 14925 was adopted in support of the Urban Forestry Grant Application. Subsequent to adoption of that Resolution, CAL FIRE required potential grantees to adopt an updated Resolution referencing grant fund expiration on March 30, 2012 instead of March 30, 2011, as in the original Resolution. ALTERNATIVES Do not adopt this resolution which may potentially affect the acceptance of the City's grant application. FISCAL IMPACT Although there is no direct cost associated with adopting this resolution, the estimated cost of the inventory of all 31,000 trees is approximately $107,000.00. Funding from the Tree Preservation and Sidewalk Replacement Program may provide the additional resources to make up the difference between the grant award and the cost of inventory services.
