MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br /> <br />A. Legislation (information only) - This sub-section involves possible discussion of <br />City Position on Proposed Legislation described in the League of California Cities <br />City Advocate Weekly Issue No. 40-2009. Council may direct staff to act on <br />positions taken by Council. (Copies of League of California Cities City Advocate <br />Weekly available in the City Clerk's Department). <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Howard spoke about the recent Trivia Bee event organized by Project Read. <br />She explained that Council Member Hartnett was recognized with the Fire of Hope award, <br />which is a very special award. Council Member Hartnett recognized the volunteers who <br />made this event a complete success. Mayor Foust explained that this event is a family <br />tradition for Council Member Hartnett and began with Barbara Royer Greenalch, his aunt <br />and co-founder of the event. <br /> <br />Council Member Hartnett and Vice Mayor Howard explained that as they leave the Council <br />and the regional boards they serve on there should be some discussion about upcoming <br />elections. Mayor Foust concurred that this should be brought back so that those interested <br />could express their interest to serve. Mayor Foust also announced that on November 30, <br />2009 the Council will be having a tribute meeting to honor Vice Mayor Howard and Council <br />Member Hartnett as they are termed out. <br /> <br />Council Member Aguirre reported on attending the Zoppe Circus and she said that <br />Mademoiselle Sandra thanked her and the Council for doing the welcomes at each <br />session. She thanked Lucas Wilder for his hard work on event planning. <br /> <br />Council Member Ira concurred that it would be good to have a discussion about upcoming <br />seats since letters of endorsement will have to be sent out. <br /> <br />10. ADJOURNMENT - M/S Howard/Aguirre to adjourn at 10:35 p.m. to the next regular <br />Council Meeting of November 9, 2009.
