11/09/2009 ORIGINAL RESOLUTION NO. 14982 RESOLUTION APPROVING THE SOLE SOURCE PURCHASE OF FIVE MAIN PUMPS AND MOTORS FROM FLOWSERVE, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $400,000, AND SUSPENDING THE REQUIREMENTS OF ARTICLE VII, PURCHASING, OF CHAPTER 2 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO COMPETITIVE BIDDING FOR THIS PURCHASE, AUTHORIZING THE ASSIGNMENT OF THIS SOLE SOURCE PURCHASE AGREEMENT TO THE SUCCESSFUL BIDDER, AND APPROVING $10,000 FOR FLOWSERVE TO START THE SUBMITTAL PROCESS WHEREAS, on October 19, 2009, the Council authorized staff and Kennedy /Jenks Consultants to perform analyses and design to increase the pumping capacity at the Recycled Water Distribution Pump Station (DPS) in order to meet projected future demand starting with the 2010 irrigation season; and WHEREAS, the DPS was designed for expansion and can accommodate up to ten pumps and currently has five pumps in operation; and WHEREAS, additional pumping capacity is now required to meet demand in the Seaport area and that construction project is being prepared for public bidding; and WHEREAS, the pump sleeves previously installed that will receive the new pumps, were designed to be compatible with Flowserve pumps, and the five pumps in operation were manufactured by Flowserve; and WHEREAS, City staff would like to purchase new pumps from the same manufacturer, Flowserve, because Flowserve's main pump units are compatible with the existing pumping components, and the electrical and control systems in current use at the DPS facility; and WHEREAS, Flowserve's pumping units are uniquely suited to the customized controls at DPS and are designed to operate under a broad range of conditions; and WHEREAS, even though other suppliers have indicated that they can provide comparable equipment within the required timeframe, the time necessary to prepare and review ATTY/RESO/RES0.1960 14982 111009 MUFF # 802
