6.1G
age 1

November 23, 2009

SUBJECT
Permit Agreement with San Mateo County for Courthouse Square Storage Space

RECOMMENDATION
By motion, approve the Permit Agreement with San Mateo County for a stofe foom in the Old
County Courthouse, in the amount of $500 per month.

BACKGROUND
Activities on the Courthouse Square have increased, requiring the Parks, Recreation and
Community Services Department to acquire a variety of portable chairs, tables, canopies and
other related equipment. To date staff has been able to use the vacant pavilions to store much
of the equipment. Now that the Pavilion space has been committed for their intended use, staff
is presented with a storage problem.

This past concert season, staff either stored event equipment in vacant pavilion space, under
the Museum Portico or transported it to the Municipal Services Center. With increased activity
compounded by the rental of the last pavilion, San Mateo County was approached for
availability of vacant storage space in the Old Courthouse.

The County identified space and has agreed to rent approximately 1,000 square feet of a secure
room to the City. Access is provided via a ramp to Theatre Way. The Agreement is open ended
with a 90 day written termination notice that can be initiated by either party. The storage space
does not have heating or air conditioning and is intended only for storage.

ALTERNATIVES
Decline to approve the permit agreement and require staff to transport all items to the Municipal
Service Center, or look for alternative rental space.

FISCAL IMPACT
The rental for the space is $500 per month which will be shared equally by the Redevelopment
Agency and the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department. Funds are available in
current, approved supplies and service budgets.

a~Vf-/

Corinne Centeno
Director

pe~

City Manager

ATTACHMENT
San Mateo County Permit Agreement No. 5331
