Lee <br />Judge of the Superior Court <br />c/o Bianca Fasuescu <br />Hall of Justice <br />400 County Center, 2nd Floor <br />Redwood City, CA 94063-1655 <br /> <br />Re: San Mateo County Civil Grand Jury Report titled: “Assessing and Reporting Internal Controls in San <br />Mateo County Agencies and School Districts” issued on June 27, 2024. <br /> <br /> <br />Dear Judge Lee: <br /> <br />The City of Redwood City (City) received the San Mateo County Civil Grand Jury Report titled, “Assessing <br />and Reporting Internal Controls in San Mateo County Agencies and School Districts” on June 27, 2024. <br />The report instructed the City of Redwood City to respond to Findings 2 and 3 and Recommendations 2 <br />and 3. <br /> <br />Pursuant to Penal Code § 933, the following response to the Grand Jury was reviewed and approved by <br />the City Council at its meeting on August 26, 2024: <br /> <br />Findings <br /> <br />F2. When an entity does not periodically assess its internal controls and the entity cannot demonstrate <br />that it is monitoring its internal controls, the likelihood of a failure in internal controls that results in <br />fraud or waste increases. <br /> <br />Response: The City agrees with the finding. <br /> <br />F3. When management does not report the results of its assessments of internal controls to its <br />governing board and the entity has not communicated externally, the likelihood that others see this as <br />an opportunity to commit fraud or waste increases. <br /> <br />Response: The City agrees with the finding. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />6.C. - Page 21 of 22 <br />100
