From:Sharon King
To:publiccomment
Cc:Sharon King; Mike King
Subject:City Council Meeting Monday 8/26/2024 Public Comment
Date:Sunday, August 25, 2024 2:29:29 PM
You don't often get email from sharon_queen_2000@yahoo.com. Learn why this is important
Attn: City Council Members
Re: Comment on Agenda Item 6H
We see from your agenda outline for Monday's meeting that item 6H is calling for: "Grant application and
projects approval for San Mateo County Transportation Authority's Measure A/W Pedestrian and Bicycle
Program, Vera Ave Permanent Bicycle Blvd Project and James Ave/El Canino Real Intersection
Improvement Project."
The recommendation being presented to the council is: 1) Adopt a resolution supporting the Vera Ave
Permanent Bicycle Blvd Prodect and James Ave/El Camino Real intersection improvement Project and
Authorizing the submittal of Two Applications to the SM County Transportation Authority fr Measure A/W
Pedistrian and Bicycle Program funding ; and 2) By motion, authorize the City Manager to execute related
grant documents.
Our comment is the following : On 8/6/2024 @ 6:00 PM there was a "Neighborhood Meeting regarding
the Vera Ave Bicycle Blvd Project; held at the Red Morton Community Center. My husband and I
attended the meeting along with about 25-30 other people. The meeting consisted of explaining what
phase 1 of the project has done so far, and to gather "feedback" from the community pros and cons;
before phase 2 would be implemennted. Pros were that some felt the addition of speed bumps and
crosswalk additions were helpful in order to slow down straffic near parks and schools; others mentioned
that people are either using alternate roads in order to avoid the speed bumps and then therefore creating
more traffic on alternate streets. (con) Other observation was that the increased amount of round-abouts
and or bumpouts are making it more difficult for larger vehicles (trucks, motorhomes, school buses,
firetrucks) to maneuver around. The meeting offered a Q & A time, along with an opportunity for the
attendees to post sticky notes on the Vera Ave Blvd Project (El Camino to Alameda) that we saw as
questionable and or hazardeous. (I believe I saw at least 2 dozen sticky notes) We were told by those
conducting the meeting that our comments would be turned in for further discussion/review; nothing had
been decided as of yet regarding phase 2 of the project.
Does your item #6H tonight mean that you have NOT seen or heard of the community feedback from
8/6/2024 ? If so, why haven't you....
Other comments during the meeting were concerns about parking, price, disruption, noise, detours, etc.
We were also told that we would have more options of communication with either another Community
meeting and or through the City Council. (the bottom of the flier regarging the Neighborhood meeting
says to contact Malahat Owrang, I'm not sure if that's the person who was leading the meeting on 8/6 but
if it is; someone asked her if she lives in RC and has driven through the Vera Ave project....the answer
was NO to both questions. (How does someone that doesn't live in and drive in the neighborhood able to
give insightful feedback to the City?)
We respectfully ask that if you are taking a vote tonight, please consider two things: 1) The Community
Feedback given on 8/6/2024 during the Neighborhood meeting, and 2) Evauate the pros vs cons of
necessity, expense, citizens feedback.
Thank you.
