View it for free at: http://www.cacitfes.org/openandpublic <br /> <br />AGENDA REQUIREMENTS <br />• The Brown Act sets forth certain notfce requirements for meetfngs of a legislatfve body. <br />• The agenda for a regular meetfng must be posted 72 hours in advance of the meetfng. <br />• The agenda for a special meetfng must be posted 24 hours in advance of the meetfng. <br />• The agenda must contain a brief descriptfon of every item to be discussed. There are limited <br />exceptfons where business not on the agenda may be take place. <br />• The agenda MUST include tfme for public comment. <br />• The public has the right to be notffied of items on the agenda, to attend meetfngs of a <br />legislatfve body, to record the meetfng, to speak before or during consideratfon of an agenda <br />item, and to see the materials of the legislatfve body. <br />• Agenda materials, released less than 72 hours prior to the meetfng, must be made available <br />to the public at a specified locatfon as well as at the BCC meetfng. <br />• Alternate agenda formats may be provided in appropriate alternative formats to comply <br />with the Americans with Disabilities Act by sending a written request to the staff liaison, <br />including the requestor's name, address, phone number and brief description of the <br />requested materials and preferred alternative format or auxiliary aid or service at least <br />seven calendar days before the meeting. <br /> <br />CONSEQUENCES FOR VIOLATIONS <br /> <br />• A lawsuit may be brought by the District Attorney or any interested persons. Civil lawsuits <br />may also be brought. Criminal sanctfons for intentfonal violatfons include up to six months <br />in jail and or $1,000 fine. <br />• Some actfons, if the violatfon is not cured, may be declared void. <br />• Attorney’s fees may also be awarded for successful lawsuits alleging Brown Act violatfons. <br />• If you have questfons on this matter please direct them to the City Attorney’s office. <br /> <br />VIII.
