From:David Ron
To:publiccomment
Subject:Agenda Item 9.A "Guide to City Council Communications"
Date:Sunday, September 8, 2024 8:43:45 PM
You don't often get email from dron1021@gmail.com. Learn why this is important
Dear City Council,
I share the councils' s concerns that over the last few months outside agitators have been
disrupting the business of cities in our area by proliferating anti semitic and other forms of
hate speech over Zoom. All forms of hate speech are antithetical to the values of our city and
should be prohibited.
If the council determines that online Zoom access should be restored to the public for purposes
of public comments, I would suggest that this be approved with a modification.
The modification I would recommend is that public comments over Zoom be restricted to
residents of Redwood City only.
There are multiple ways to technically limit Zoom access by either area code or Zip code, with
the simplest being the requirement of participants to register in advance and customizing a
series of registration questions that ask for their area code or zip code. The City can then
manually either accept or reject a participant based on an acceptance criteria.
By limiting public comments over Zoom to only Redwood City residents, we would be able
to:
Provide free speech access to our residents, including any residents that do not have
the financial or physical means to attend in person, but at the same time;
Reduce the influence of organizations that encourage their audiences from outside our
City to disrupt the business of the City, that often include anti semitic tropes and
slogans and other forms of hate speech antithetical to the values of Redwood City.
Thank you for your consideration.
David Ron
Member of Congregation Beth Jacob
1550 Alameda de las Pulgas
Redwood City CA 94061
--
David Ron
email: dron1021@gmail.com
cell (650) 823-7998
