From:Susan Hinton
To:publiccomment
Subject:Public comment on September 23, 2024 Council meeting agenda item 6E
Date:Monday, September 23, 2024 5:04:09 PM
[You don't often get email from suewalt@comcast.net. Learn why this is important at https://aka.ms/LearnAboutSenderIdentification ]
Dear Mayor Gee, Vice Mayor Espinoza-Garmica, and Redwood City Councilmembers,
I am saddened to note that Redwood City has replaced an aritifical turf field with more plastic. For the same amount of money the City might have chosed to replace the plastic with sustainably managed grass, and I hope the city keeps this in mind going forward.
Issues with artificial turf include urban heat islands on hot days, plastic pieces entering our watershed, use of harsh chemials to remove problem deposits and weeds, PFAS chemicals and more:
https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?
url=https%3A%2F%2Fdocs.google.com%2Fpresentation%2Fd%2F1GuVBOIrG_vWEqPBg2j57l09o6_lDyON_nrILDNa12LQ%2Fpub%3Fstart%3Dtrue%26loop%3Dtrue%26delayms%3D3000&data=05%7C02%7Cpubliccomment%40redwoodcity.org%7C27bf26a77a7f47871be308dcdc2c679b%7C02eee40d6a354d7588035403096cc23e%7C0%7C0%7C638627330488563972%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=F9oFNXaeL4mDRlNGz86Lr%2B7UiCKhtcxRgQ%2Bv2wzo1hc%3D&reserved=0
Respectfully,
Susan HintonLead, Plastic Pollution Prevention Team
Sierra Club Loma Prieta Chapter
