Learn why this is important
I am Carmen Torres, representing SIREN Services Immigrant Rights
and Education Network, and advocates for the immigrant and refugee
community for over 35 years, we support the ordinance restricting the
Use of Municipal Resources to Assist or Cooperate with Immigration
officials in effect allowing Redwood City to become a sanctuary for
immigrants.
The incoming Trump Administration has made no secret of its intention
to carry out mass deportations of immigrants at the start of
its Administration. This action would separate families, families
who have made Redwood City a diverse and multicultural city. A
sanctuary ordinance would protect Redwood City immigrant families
from separation and deportation.
This ordinance is even more necessary as this is a continuation of
Trump’s unjust and inhumane deportation and family separation
history. Immigrant families will bear the brunt of this cruel and divisive
policy in many aspects of their daily life: work, school, housing, health,
and food and more.
Help us keep families together, help these families continue their great
contribution to our community, help provide a safe environment in which
to live, work, and study. Do the right thing, support this ordinance to
restrict cooperation with ICE officials, allow Redwood City to become a
sanctuary city for immigrants.
Carmen Torres
SIREN, Services, Immigrant Rights & Education Network
carmen@sirenimmigrantrights.org
408.453.3003 office
925.395.8859 mobile
