5 of 15 <br />Overview of Impact Fees <br />Purpose:To help pay for the cost of new or additional public <br />facilities that are needed to serve new developments. <br />Documentation:The Mitigation Fee Act requires that <br />impact fees be reasonably related to the impact of the <br />development on public services and facilities and that local <br />agencies justify, document, and use impact fees for their <br />intended purpose. <br />Use: Can only pay for the portion of an improvement that <br />benefits the new development, and they cannot be used fund <br />existing deficiencies.
