From:Mary Hicks
To:GRP-City Council
Subject:Outrageous Increases
Date:Friday, December 13, 2024 8:20:16 PM
You don't often get email from hmlhicks@aol.com. Learn why this is important
I just saw the below on Nextdoor and it states exactly how I feel. I, too, am sick of your rate
increases. Please do something about this before our City loses residents and businesses and
becomes a ghost town! I hereby protest the proposed rate increases.
Mary Hicks
751 Barnegat Lane
Redwood City, CA. 94065
Publication from Nextdoor:
“I just received a notice that Redwood City is planning to increase our garbage
rates AGAIN. Remember that they increased the monthly rate for a 32 gallon can
$7 a month in January 2024. They now want another $8 effective February 1,
2025. So, over a 2 year period the combined rate increase is $15 per month. This
is a 44% increase over 2 years! In 2024 I asked why does Redwood City pay
significantly more for garbage than Foster City and of course I received no
response. Why does Foster City charge $37.66 per month vs their proposed rate
for Redwood City of $52.86 per month. In other words, they propose Redwood
City resident pay 140% more than Foster City. Also remember that in the past 2
years they have raised our sewer charge and water rates. They have attempted to
“hide” these outrageous increases by moving your sewer charge to your real estate
bill. I urge you to file a protest with the city council as to the amount of the
increase AND a detailed explanation on why RWC residents have to pay 140% of
what a Foster City resident pays. It is apparent to me that they just opt to raise
the price of city services without any cost cutting measures to offset these
increases. Why are we paying our City Manager one of the highest salaries in the
peninsula without any proof that salary is benefiting the residents? I am just tired
of more taxes on everything and the more for basic city services. IT IS OUT OF
CONTROL!”
