From:Angela Malenfant
To:publiccomment
Subject:Garbage increase
Date:Monday, December 16, 2024 9:22:46 AM
You don't often get email from agmalenfant@gmail.com. Learn why this is important

Dear Redwood City Council Members,
I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the recently proposed increase in garbage
collection rates, particularly the significant impact it has on residents utilizing the 20-gallon
cans.
As a resident of Redwood City for the past three years, I have witnessed a troubling trend:
garbage rates for the smallest can size have more than doubled. Now, the proposed 26%
increase feels especially punitive for those of us actively trying to minimize waste.
This disproportionate increase discourages responsible waste management practices. Residents
who make a conscious effort to conserve and reduce their environmental footprint are being
penalized the most.
I urge the City Council to reconsider this proposal. A more equitable solution is needed, one
that incentivizes, rather than disincentivizes, responsible waste disposal.
I encourage you to explore alternative solutions, such as:
Implementing a tiered rate structure that rewards lower waste generation.
Offering additional resources and support programs to help residents further reduce their
waste.
I believe in a sustainable Redwood City and hope we can find a way to achieve this goal while
ensuring fair and equitable waste management practices for all residents.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
A malenfant
843 Mohican way
Sent from my iPhone
