Learn why this isimportant
Dear Members of the Redwood City Council and Planning Commission,
On behalf of the Silicon Valley Lions Club, I am writing to express our strong support for the
Redwood LIFE Evolve proposal in Redwood Shores. As one of the longest-standing service
organizations in our community, the Lions Clubs are deeply committed to serving the needs of
Redwood City residents. The inclusion of new, publicly accessible community space in this
development is a tremendous opportunity for local organizations like ours, addressing a long-
standing need for meeting and event facilities.
The Need for Community Space One of the biggest challenges facing the Silicon Valley Lions
Club—as well as other service organizations like Rotary, Kiwanis, and local nonprofits—is
securing suitable venues for meetings, celebrations, and fundraisers. Our ability to support the
community depends not only on our volunteer efforts but also on having spaces to gather,
plan, and host events that bring people together in service of a greater good.
The Redwood LIFE Evolve proposal includes much-needed community event space that will
be available for public use. This is a game-changer for organizations like ours. Having a
dedicated, modern space in Redwood Shores will allow us to:
-Host community meetings where we can discuss initiatives, coordinate service projects, and
engage with local leaders.
- Hold fundraising events that support vision care programs, scholarships, food drives, and
other charitable efforts.
- Provide a hub for service projects where volunteers can organize, strategize, and work
together on community improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with other organizations, such as Rotary, local schools, and business groups, to
amplify our collective impact.
The Lions Club: A Force for Good in Redwood City
For decades, the Lions Club has been dedicated to making a difference in our community. Our
mission extends across numerous service areas, including:
- Providing free vision screenings and eyeglasses for children and adults in need.
- Organizing food drives to support families facing food insecurity.
- Offering scholarships to local students to support their educational pursuits.
- Supporting disaster relief efforts both locally and globally.
- Partnering with other service groups to enhance Redwood City's quality of life.
Despite our dedication, the lack of accessible, affordable meeting and event spaces has limited
our ability to expand our outreach. The new community space at Redwood LIFE Evolve
would directly address this challenge, ensuring that we—and other organizations—have the
facilities necessary to continue serving Redwood City.
A Development That Benefits the Entire Community
