1 <br />CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br />BUILDING INSPECTOR <br />DEFINITION <br />To inspect routine and complex structures and building systems at various <br />stages of construction, alteration and repair; assist in the review of building plans <br />and specifications; and investigate and secure compliance with zoning <br />standards.all applicable codes and regulations. <br />DISTINGUSHING CHARACTERISTICS <br />This is the journey level class in the Building Inspector series. This class <br />requires that the employee assume responsibility for a full range of d uties <br />requiring a comprehensive knowledge of department policies and procedures. A <br />Building Inspector is expected to perform the entire range of moderately difficult <br />combination inspections (building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical) of a <br />variety of r esidences, commercial and industrial buildings. Incumbents receive <br />specialized training in building inspection and code enforcement functions and <br />are expected to perform a full range of duties within a relatively short time. This <br />individual will have experience in the building construction field, and will poses an <br />ICC building inspector’s certification (or ability to obtain within one year). <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br />General supervision is provided by the Deputy Chief Building Official; technical or <br />functional supervision is provided by a Senior Building Inspector. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the <br />following: <br />Make field inspections of industrial, commercial, and residential buildings during <br />various stages of c onstruction and remodeling to assure compliance with <br />applicable codes and regulations of the City, County, State and Federal <br />agencies.ensure compliance with applicable code regulations . <br />Perform complex inspection duties in several trade specialties such as plumbing, <br />electrical and mechanical, structural and finish trade areas. <br />Perform and utilize city issued equipment and new computer /software <br />technology. <br />Issue permits for work to be performed. <br />Conduct cross training to perform code enforcement duties . <br />PROPOSED AMENDED JOB DESCRIPTIONS <br />EXHIBIT D <br />ATTY/RESO.0015/CC RESO AMENDING CLASSIFICATION, SALARY, AND WAGE PLAN (SEIU) - EXHIBITS A-D <br />REV: 02-27-25 MI <br /> <br />Page 26 of 34
