Tier Two: <br />a. For all other employees, including employees hired before October 1, <br />2021 who achieve new or more advanced bilingual skills following that <br />date, eligibility for Bilingual Premium Pay is as follows: <br />Basic Level: Effective the first full pay period following City Council <br />approval of this Summary, employees with proficient bilingual skills <br />who are routinely and consistently assigned to positions requiring <br />communication in languages other than English and that are listed <br />below are eligible, with Department Head approval, to receive a pay <br />differential of $353.18 per month ($163 per biweekly pay period) for <br />the use of these skills in job duties arising during the normal course of <br />work. To receive the Proficiency Level of Bilingual Premium Pay, the <br />employee is required to receive advance Department Head approval, <br />be proficient in a listed language, and successfully pass a proficiency <br />examination as determined by the Personnel Officer every three (3) <br />years. <br /> <br />Advanced Level: Effective the first full pay period following City Council <br />approval of this Summary, employees with advanced bilingual skills <br />who are routinely and consistently assigned to positions requiring <br />communication in languages other than English and that are listed <br />below, with Department Head approval, to receive a pay differential of <br />$706.36 per month ($326.01 per biweekly pay period) for the use of <br />these advanced skills in job duties arising during the normal course of <br />work. Advanced bilingual skills, for purposes of the advanced bilingual <br />pay differential, are defined as verbal and written fluency in a listed <br />language other than English, including the ability to translate and <br />communicate beyond conversational speaking and/or basic writing. To <br />receive the advanced level of bilingual premium pay, the employee is <br />required to receive advance Department Head approval, be fluent in a <br />listed language, and successfully pass a fluency examination as <br />determined by the Personnel Officer every three (3) years. <br /> <br />6.I. - Page 70 of 119 <br />484
