Learn why this is important
I am writing to voice my opposition to the Redwood Life development Project proposed for
Redwood Shores.
I am opposed to:
1) the size... specifically 3.3 million s.f. of new office, lab, hotel, etc.. space is too large and far
far above any prior development project proposed for this location. There is a tentative
proposed alternative for a 450 thousand s.f. reduction, but at 2.85 million s.f., still way too
much. There are many unoccupied properties in the vicinity, so this grand expansion seems
over-kill and not essential. Just say no.
2) heights... specifically the allowance to build up to 100 ft high. Scaling this down to no more
than 70-75 ft (and still above prior allowed heights) would seem a reasonable limit, which will
also act to scale back overall s.f. area (per objection #1 above). The height reduction will also
help reduce bird deaths from window crashes
3) the impact on wildlife along the Belmont Slough, as proposed... there must be strong
mitigation requirements to prevent adverse impacts on and degredation to all the wildlife (e.g.
birds, reptiles, mammals, fish, plants, bugs) and the slough itself (e.g. water, air&land quality
from potential contamination or waste streams resulting from the project (before, during &
after construction and during use).
4) light & noise pollution impacts... which includes the deleterious impact on nocturnal
wildlife, disturbances to diurnal wildlife, and so would necessitate mitigations for keeping
light inside buildings, not projected upwards as much as possible, and avoiding blue/white
light sources, especially in outside walkways, parking and landscaping.
Besides the company's desire to greatly expand & consolidate at this location to create "a
world class life sciences campus", the grand scale and many elements are unnecessary (e.g.
hotel, amenity center. etc..) and excessive. Please moderate and scale back the proposal to a
more environmentally friendly, size-suitable and sustainability-focused project. I'm not against
the development of the location, just the massive scale-up and problematic impacts at this
Redwood Shores site.
Thanks you for the consideration and regards...
