April 14, 2025

I am a property owner currently residing within the Harbortown Planned Unit Development
(PUD) in the City of San Mateo where recent upgrades to commercial oHice buildings
across the street by the Longfellow Real Estate Partners (LFREP) dubbed the “San Mateo
Science Center” at 901/951 Mariner’s Island Boulevard continues to have a wholly negative
impact on the quiet enjoyment of my residence and my community due to constant noise,
vibration, and harmonic oscillations as a result of such modifications. Furthermore, the
final result is nothing short of an eyesore and a blight on the nearby residential
communities (Ref. Figures 1 and 2).

Figure 1: San Mateo Science Center as seen from Parkside Aquatic Park Figure 2: San Mateo Science Center as seen from Shoal Drive

Ever since construction was completed in mid-2024, over half of my residence — in
particular my patio, dining, living, and work areas — have all been rendered practically
unusable due to the constant noise which overpowers any sounds of the natural
environment. An incessant hum which is almost more felt than heard whereby I’ve had to
resort to playing music in the background or wearing earplugs inside my residence just to
stay sane. Inviting others into to share a quiet meal at my home is unthinkable and simply
opening my windows during warm days or evenings is intolerable. During calm evenings I
can even hear the noise in my bedroom at night which negatively impacts my sleep and in
turn has had a detrimental impact on both my physical and mental health.
