Moreover, the development's massive increase in building intensity, from under 1 million to
2.86 million square feet, would overwhelm the existing infrastructure systems. Laboratory
facilities would require 10 times the energy and 5 times the water usage of traditional office
spaces, straining local utilities beyond their capacity and potentially leading to service
disruptions and increased costs for current residents.
Lastly, the development site's history as a landfill presents serious environmental and safety
challenges that cannot be overlooked. Construction activities, especially pile driving and the
removal of 97% of the protective asphalt cap, risk compromising crucial containment
measures and exposing the community to hazardous materials. The combination of landfill
risks with rising sea levels and groundwater issues poses long-term threats to community
safety and property values.
In conclusion, the Redwood Life development project represents an unprecedented and ill-
conceived transformation of our community. The scale, intensity, and impacts of this proposal
are simply incompatible with the character and well-being of Redwood Shores. I urge you, as
our elected and appointed leaders, to carefully consider the substantial concerns outlined in
this letter and take decisive action to protect the interests of our residents and the environment
we cherish.
Sincerely,
Rick Sakuda
2101 S Norfolk St
San Mateo, CA 94403
dogg070@gmail.com
