Learn why this is important at
https://aka.ms/LearnAboutSenderIdentification ]
Mr Owrang and Redwood City city council members,
I’ve lived in Redwood City for 58 years. I lived on Redwood Avenue when there were still greenhouses on
Kentfield Avenue.
As you can imagine, I’ve seen many changes over the years.
The beautiful and busy downtown area, with music, movies, and restaurants, is nothing like it was in the “Deadwood
City“ era. I have lived in Redwood City all my life and love my neighborhood and this city.
As I look at the proposals for the Jefferson Avenue corridor, I see proposed improvements, and I see underlying
problems.
I have been a homeowner on Upton for 19 years.
I wholeheartedly support the pedestrian hybrid beacons at Upton and Jefferson and Ruby and Jefferson. From
firsthand experience, these are dangerous intersections to cross.
Regarding the lane conversions, reducing traffic on Jefferson to one lane in each direction, I believe, will push
traffic east of Alameda onto side streets. Apps such as Waze and Google will offer faster ETAs using quiet side
streets. This is not an improvement. When the conversion of Farm Hill Lane was implemented, additional routes as
shortcuts were not possible because there are no alternatives available.
Lastly, I would implore the designers not to remove parking from Jefferson. Parking on side streets is already a
challenge, and displacing cars from Jefferson will only exacerbate parking further.
Bill Anderson
