<br />Jerry Hill, California Assembly Member, said he came to speak as a former Council <br />Member of the City of San Mateo and that it has been a privilege to work with each <br />outgoing Council Member. He said that each of them is extraordinary for their heart and <br />compassion. He has found that these two Council Members look at what is best for the <br />public and the community. <br /> <br />Carole Groom, on behalf of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, expressed her <br />best wishes to Vice Mayor Howard and Council Member Hartnett. She also thanked them, <br />on behalf of the community and personally for their many years of service, leadership, and <br />mentorship, and feels they will be truly missed. <br /> <br />Mayor Foust thanked the speakers and acknowledged the various resolutions, <br />proclamations and commendations sent from their offices. In particular, she mentioned <br />that Anna Eschoo's office sent two flags that had been flown over the capitol. <br /> <br />Jim Skinner, Fire Chief, presented the outgoing Council Members with tokens of <br />appreciation and thanked them for their continued support and dedication. <br /> <br />Chu Chang, Building Infrastructure and Transportation Director, introduced Jill Ekas, <br />Planning, Housing & Economic Development Director, who thanked Council Member <br />Hartnett for his years of service and leadership. Peter Vorametsanti, Supervising <br />Engineer, expressed his gratitude to Vice Mayor Howard. Both Council Members received <br />celebratory plaques. This was followed by a video illustrating the myriad projects these <br />two Council Members brought to fruition through their persistence and hard work. <br /> <br />City Manager, Peter Ingram, thanked the outgoing Council Members on behalf of the <br />organization for their leadership and skills. He shared his appreciation for their styles and <br />for their commitment to making this a better community/city. On behalf of the Executive <br />team he presented them with tokens of appreciation <br /> <br />2. Presentation of Proclamations <br /> <br />Mayor Foust then presented the Council Members with gifts from the Council. <br /> <br />3. Comments by other City Council Members <br /> <br />All Council Members, in alphabetical order expressed their thanks to the outgoing Council <br />Members and highlighted different items they valued in them. There was some emotion in <br />the air as each Council Member recalled the value, strength and cohesiveness of an <br />effective City Council. <br /> <br />4. Comments by departing City Council Members <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Howard and Council Member Hartnett presented gifts to their colleagues. <br />They also presented a token of appreciation to their appointees: the City Manager, City <br />Attorney and City Clerk. Vice Mayor Howard thanked her family for all their support and <br />the community. She acknowledged those who had come from far and near to share in <br />this tribute meeting. She spoke about her 15 years on Council and how much she values <br />being of service and improving the quality of life of her constituents.
